The Annual Report Workshop

A workshop for individuals with no or very limited financial background. Designed to enable non-financial employees and managers to read and interpret your company’s financial statements, the course features both self-study and classroom learning. Participants work extensively in your company’s own annual report to both learn the basics of financial measurement, and to analyze and interpret your company’s performance. Course materials also serve as a substantial reference book, fully indexed and with comprehensive terminology definitions explained in plain English throughout. RMA’s Commercial Lending School

Through our affiliation with Caliber Training Partners, we have developed and co-market the Risk Management Association’s ground-up skills development program for new lenders in Pennsylvania’s Delaware Valley. This 13-week program consists of a comprehensive curriculum, beginning with basics of financial analysis, and featuring topics that include: automated financial statement spreading, analyzing personal financial statements and tax returns, analyzing business tax returns, cash flow analysis, understanding industry risks, and writing an effective credit write-up.

Courses are a combination of RMA and Caliber Training Partners courses. Skill building begins in the classroom and is augmented by a series of complex case study assignments that are interspersed between the courses, to be completed by teams meeting independently. Faculty consists of three individuals who teach all of the courses and who actively coach and mentor the participants in all phases of the program. Coaching includes detailed debriefing of all case assignments, including written evaluations of the final, comprehensive case study product. Our current class consists of 21 participants from 10 financial institutions.

Risk Rating Self-Study

A five-hour instructional program that teaches line lenders and credit analysts and officers how to use their institution’s new two-dimensional risk rating system. Developed for one of the top fifteen banking companies, this course provides concept learning to help participants understand the theory of risk models that meet Basle II risk capital guidelines, and more specifically how to use the bank’s own conforming model. Course activities include reading and analysis, comprehension checks, screen-by-screen model input demonstrations, and case study exercises to practice using the model.
